Jane Lau is a passionate music educator and inclusive music practitioner for all ages. Her journey with music began in childhood through piano, school band, and church choir, alongside early friendships that revealed the power of connection and inclusion. These experiences shaped her lifelong belief that music can be a bridge—connecting people, supporting self-expression, and nurturing confidence. Today, Jane brings this philosophy to her teaching and community work, creating joyful, meaningful, and accessible musical experiences for children, seniors, and learners with diverse abilities.
Jane holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music and has 17 years of teaching experience, working with children from babies to preschoolers, students with diverse abilities, and seniors living with Parkinson’s disease. She also holds certifications in the Orff and Kodály approaches, which she applies creatively to develop multisensory, engaging programmes that meet learners where they are.
As an Artist-in-School (NAC) and adjunct lecturer at NIEC, Jane has led a variety of inclusive music programmes, including Small Songs for Special Hearts, Small Songs for Seasoned Hearts, and Small Songs of Inspiring Stories. Her work emphasizes relationship-centred learning, responsiveness to each participant’s needs, and creating joyful, meaningful musical experiences that foster connection, creativity, and emotional expression.
Beyond her professional achievements, Jane is deeply committed to community and intergenerational engagement. She believes that every musical moment - a tap of a drum, a breath of song, a smile in rhythm - carries the potential to make a difference. Her warmth, patience, and thoughtful facilitation have inspired participants and fellow educators alike.
Through Small Songs Studio, Jane continues to champion music as a medium of inclusion, reflection, and joy, designing programmes that celebrate each learner’s strengths and embrace the beauty of shared musical experiences.
